Historically, South Windsor was home to the stunning St. Mary's Academy, 1927, designed by a Sister from the order, not an architect, at a cost of $1 million dollars built in Gothic style. The 5 story building included a chapel, classrooms, accommodation for boarding students and a majestic Gothic tower. In 1977, the school was imploded by a local developer and was replaced with the subdivision currently known as The Gates of St. Mary's, bricks can still be found around some of the properties to this day!
Another main attraction in South Windsor is the popular Budimir Library. Opened in 1966, named after Nikola Budimir, who purchased the site for the library. It's also listed on the Heritage Registry (Arch. Johnson & McWhinnie). Other highlights include:
